Spring-cleaning the other day,
I found some old letters
from a love long gone
into the arms
of someone else’s embrace.
I held them in my hands
poised to drop them
deep into the trash can
where they belonged
Their meaning now gone
Why read them again?
Yet I read them once,
then twice,
then again.
Memories of you and me
of us
coming back through these words.
Ten years or so have past,
but for a brief moment
I was back in yesterday
Days of naivety
Days of being your fool,
but days that were happy
and love was a word
we said
and meant
and making love made us as one.
I folded them gently and placed them back
into the box.
Safe for spring-cleaning for another day.
Saved for a time again
when I really needed something
to just make me
want to smile…..
