We are all familiar with the tern upon my soul, to the depth of my soul and other similar phrases. What do we mean?

SOUL,

What is this innermost flame that burns within us bright

This unknown unseen flame that gives us life,

An innate force that lets us live or die,

It's depth s, by which we must measure all things by.

This core of our being , this spirit of life,

The essence upon which we swear by , when confronted with strife,

A person bereft of soul, can such really exist,

For without soul, no feeling or emotion can persist,

Ponder on this and see if an answer be found,

Or is it true , that to Our Soul , all feelings are bound .

John,
This is so excellent... I was having a discussion just the other day with a close friend and he stated that poetry is emotion but it is merely in the thought and brain for the nervous system is the rulling factor for all emotion and feeling. I argued that nope it may help but it is the heart and soul and mostly the soul. So this piece I truly enjoyed and I wrote a small article on it but never posted I am now.... You summed up perfect my thoughts of the subject... But then I feel we are spirit or soul inside as much as flesh on the outside that houses us...
Excellent poetry.

Souls are our spirits.
Without soul we are just machines.

A computer is a machine without soul.
And so will all the cloned human beings be...

Without souls.

Unfortunately, there are also many real human beings...

Without souls.
