Our American Family

Undeniable hope in America as a family and in unity.

Our American Family

.NetaQ2

California Red Woods, majestic and inspiring

Baltimore Orioles, brave and true

Jumping Junipers, ‘peace and prosperity’

Our beloved Rust Belt, families in plight

Kansas a soothsayer to restore dreams,

Oh, Nicodemus, help me to remember you.

Cajun reminisces a ‘might’ and fight

The Bayou a storm of contrasts, ah calling

Southern rhythms, cadences

Roiling with exclusivity,

Blending, arching in soulful need

Oh, our beautiful American Family.

Twisting, furling, tangling like weeds

Kansas, help me to remember your sense

Of community

Our beloved Buckeyes, stalwart in core

Pensive, ferocious to the cause – waiting.

We the people,

Trying to stand in solidarity,

Trying to listen in repose,

As those ole California Redwoods.

Sometimes we stride

Sometimes we bend

We lean, as we try to reach -

Holding at arm’s length to deny familiarity.

Say it ain’t so, Uncle

Our Heartland American Family.

Look at tearful faces

Disgusted postures

Disconnected visages

Of the World, we stand

Trying to belong

Trying not to care.

Bring forth from you

What is in You,

All that is joyful and Just!

Bring forth from You,

The You that doesn’t judge,

My accent, my tears,

My dreams!

Our American Family

Embrace our shining selves

Our Judas personas

Embrace our past and shove

It from our futures.

Families love!

Families care!

Families argue!

Our American Family,

We fight for our freedoms

We fight to choose our loves

We fight to protect those we love

We fight to protect our way of life.

We the people.

We the people.

We. The. People.

Must fight -

For all we hold dear

And true

We Must Fight for US.

This is an impressive portrait of fact and fiction, hope and imagination, a time to heal, a time to rejoice. The Great Marches in all 50 states across the country and around the world on January 21st brought together much of what your write about but in dignified opposition to our present circumstance. I like the possibilities.

A rousing political statement that does not take sides. Very cool and refreshing. May we stand like redwoods and last a few thousand years more before drought or heavy rain storm brings us down.

The American family definitely needs to be fought fo. There are far to many single parent homes, and a child needs both parents present to thrive.

This is exclusively perfectly penned, Neta. To be an American family, joining the millions of other American families you have given voice and thought of what, exactly, an American family is. Thank you.
