I'm Capturing The Lonely Little Spaces

I'm clicking my Leica
the shutter clamps down
on another lonely little space

On the Red Line my camera shakes
as the subway car click-clacks my camera
but I must capture that lonelylittle space

It's just there under the concrete bridge (See it?)

where the angular slope meets a patch of grass

so small and insignificant you want to sit there

But no one has ever visited that spot
not since it was constructed by the tracks inaccessable and only seen from whizzing trains

Desolate and alluring in its loneness
anonymity and insignificance that fleet by captured for 1/250th of a second by my Leica

Held firmly in my root soul for eternity
this tiny space that now belongs to me and my heart uninteresting and unheeded by anyone else

I could photograph so many of these tiny lost islands that snuggle among the substantial and whole denied any recognition moment by anyone

They are everywhere I turn now in my longing for places as obscure and forfeited as my last major insight and message

A whole civilization of stranger curbs and cornices left spaces screaming for company rushing to oblivion like unanswered prayers

When I developed the picture of this latest (It's ruined!)
space left by God for me alone to hold it was smeared and lost uncaptured

You can't capture anything in 1/250th of a second that was placed there to breathe at you much faster and more silently than anything

It remains out there ignored by the Red Line tracks unavailable to some smarty pants photographer who wished to steal it away for himself

I really enjoyed this poem. You seem to question art:can photography be a way to possess life? How can one photograph capture the essence of place...Is the eye of the photographer ,the eye of the beholder?
A philosophical poem maybe. Lovely!Anne Pawlak.
