Poem Artwork

there’s not all that much about me
I’m not all that deep
much too dumb to be deep
as Popeye sez
I yam whot I yam
I usually
make myself pretty clear
eh . . . my reputation maybe shaky
but I’m not complex
or not clear
though I used to be myopic
but seeing life
on many different fronts
has altered my views
these days if I don’t like you
it’s because I don’t like YOU
no other reason
my life is an open book
really, Misdemeanors & Felonies: A Love Story
I write my poetry
with a smirk and a scowl
just the way I am
even so
there are tears in my lewd stuff
I’m not long for this old world
it’s coming
that guy with the scythe
after I’m gone
there will be things said about me
better not lie
I’ll be listening
and down the road
what you might think is Karma
will really be me

You possess the "art" of listening and I know so well the fortitude of saying and MEANING, "I don't like YOU". Meaningful write!

Love ya!

Jerry,
I know all about Karma, but no worries Jerry, I love you!
You are way more profound than you think.
I enjoy reading your poetry.
I have been in a funk all year, I guess turning that (65) age has gotten me thinking toooooo much!!!
Keep on writing,
peace, love and light,
Amber

You have a way of cutting to the chase. Having read Misdemeanors and Felonies I know where you are coming from That place.

Those last two lines, is that a threat or a promise? We are what we are. It is what it is, and if anything I say makes any sense, it was purely by accident. Write on.

Not by a long shot, my friend. Not by a long shot. Your poetry is you, that's why we like it, as a fine picture in the mirror.

Me neither, Jerry! I yam wot I yam! We are not deep! But unlike you, some people hate my honesty because they think I'm deep, but I'm not. Whatever I say has no secondary meaning.

These few words remind me why I look forward to reading the thoughts of people that find life is a complex challenge and only those who deny it are the ones we should fear. You are always projecting a need to be honest, and that is admirable. Even when you indulge in some self-deprecation, there's a part of your expression that says: "I write my poetry with a smirk and a scowl just the way I am even so there are tears in my lewd stuff". Truth be told, what you call lewd is what many refuse to express. Yes, there are many harboring negative thoughts that fear expressing them, fearful they'll be rejected. Fug'em. I'll take a man who enjoys working toward honesty and integrity any day. That's what this site provides for those who take advantage of that opportunity. Keep writing, Jerry. The subtext of your expressions, at least for this reader, are energizing and impactful in a positive way.
