Grief is passion reversed, it's that and worse,
When we are in despair, a smile is rare.
I'm in pure anguish, and here I languish.
Through the midnight air, a whiff of her hair.

I have prayed to God, I think He's a fraud,
Sitting on His throne, leaving us alone.
I shriek and cry, for a woman gone bye,
My soul's in retreat, some days I don't eat.

I lay silent at night, no will to fight,
My mind is blanched, I recall how you danced.
My heartache is deep, you've made me feel cheap,
I suffer for love's death, can't catch my breath.

Love can be two-faced, and tries to erase,
Love full of pride; you were to be my bride.
You chose to let go, and not let it grow,
Shattered around my feet, our love so sweet.

My eyes are cried out, now I want to shout,
Tears did not work, I just felt like a jerk.
I see you sometimes, and you look sublime,
I want to speak, but turn aside,  pathetic.

I have suffered terribly from a love gone wrong for many years as well. It hurts to forgive and forgive over and over again yet, the same stuff happens over and over again. Time and time alone is the great healer.

Love ya!

AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED, THERE IS STRENGTH IN A MAN WHO CAN ADMIT THAT THERE ARE SITUATIONS IN LIFE WHICH CAN RENDER HIM(OR ANYONE FOR THAT MATTER), AT A PARTICULAR MOMENT IN TIME...WEAK. THAT IS TO SAY, HE WAS TEMPORARILY VULNERABLE TO THE AFFECTS OF THE GRIEF(LOSS) HE WAS EXPERIENCING. MY DAUGHTER OF 55 RECENTLY WED AND ONE OF THE THINGS THAT MADE ME ADMIRE HER FUTURE HUSBAND SO MUCH WAS THAT HE WAS ABLE TO...SHED TEARS. I NEVER, NOT EVEN FOR A MOMENT, DOUBTED HIS ABILITY TO STAND UP AND BE THE MAN, THE HEAD OF THAT UNION... THAT HE HAS PROVEN HIMSELF TO BE. MY DAUGHTER IS VERY STRONG WILLED, BUT HE IS THE HEAD OF HIS FAMILY, DEFINITELY IN CHARGE, AND YET, HE WAS ABLE TO SHED TEARS. AND I AM THANKFUL THAT THAT ABILITY CAME FROM HIS PAST EXPERIENCES WHICH MOLDED AND SHAPED HIM INTO WHO HE IS TODAY. HE IS SIXTY YEARS OLD AND GOD HAS BROUGHT HIM THROUGH MUCH TO REACH THAT POINT OF...STRENGTH. THANK YOU FOR SHARING THIS KEEPER JERRY, IT IS WELL WRITTEN AND EXPOSES THE 'GOLD' OF MANHOOD. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS

This is an excellently written poem that exudes pain and sorrow that you have personalized from your own experiences, and one that I think we can all relate to.

You have revealed the nature of grief through your personal experience. There is no salve for that wound except time.

I do admire your honesty. Loving someone deeply can be like going to war, you never come back from it the same. It's kind of amazing how much emotional destruction one person can cause. This resonated well with me because I've been through it too. Peace... r

Others below have made their fine points. I will simply stand silent, in awe at this fine poem, full of heart, soul, and sorrow.

No one can tell another how to grieve or how long they should grieve. To grieve is a personal thing. When the person is ready to come out of grieving, that person will move forward.

As usual, this is a heartfelt poem, and the emotion is well expressed.

Sandie

Thank you very much Odin, for your indepth comments on my poem. "Weak," yes every time I use that word I hate it because I DO use it ad nausea. But alas, I never stop long enough to take care of that little bugger. You have called made your point, so although I am leaving it as it is, I will take a long look at the word and do better. Thanks again.

Is weak the right word to describe your sorrow? Perhaps. But I often hear that self-deprecating word and wonder if rather than weak, one might be exercising the wisdom derived from experience, painful as it might be, and choose to not awaken yet more pain, the kind we sometimes have to accept is better confined to sleep rather than awakening a possible greater nightmare of heartbreak. Not trying to suggest how you should feel, merely offering a response to your words of anguish and control. To talk it, to ground it, to put it out there is an act of courage. Celebrate that, if nothing else. Having had some experience with some of the relative emotions, I can attest to the relief writing offers. In both Echosis and my present novel, Mind Puppets, I've chosen to ground a lot of the relationship emotions and memories that are difficult to cope with. Kudos to you Jerry, for letting the words hopefully help you deal better with the hurt.
