These are strong emotions you sketch here, Jerry. Though I have never been 'the wild beast' you acknowledge, I have (at times) dealt with waves of violent ugly emotions that, if acted upon, could well have put me into that category. Isn't it encouraging to know that tomorrow is a new day with no mistakes or regrets in it yet... Peace. r
This is the kind of poetic pain that means more than the pain itself, or as an average poet might do, write for sympathy, which you don't. Pain of this kind, as we both know, comes in waves, in layers, and only when the wave crests, carrying the purge to the shore do we have a chance to find peace on the shore. YOu're tough and even if the moments appear again, you'll find a way to deal with it. Bravo the guts!

Once upon a time, I became a beast because of too much alcohol
I came home from a night of drinking and stumbled home to rest
My wife questioned my thinking and gave me the faithful test
I was in no mood for twenty questions and I let out a loud roar
but she was relentless she would not stop so I pushed her on the floor
The floor happened to be steps and she tumbled all the way down
I felt no pain I just wanted a place to put my head on the ground
I woke up hours later totally unaware of what I had done and said
She survived with many bumps and bruises as I placed her on a bed
The one who loved me the most I held in my arms with total remorse
This was a wake-up call; my life flashed and took a corrected course
My drinking days were over, from a lesson I don't care to relive
I am grateful to God as I realized there is a better life to live.
Amen, my friend.
