dark shadows float in the night
splashes of iridescent lights
whipping limbs on trees bend
no foliage to protect them
looking out the window pane
ghost like with drenching rain
in the midst of lighting strikes
I see a grinning jack-o'-lantern
pulling on my hooded slicker tight
I walk out to the pumpkin patch
frailing scare crow in the corn stalks
beacons me with arms come hither
wind in the sodden stalks and rushes
sound like slow dragging feet
tree owl, keeps calling out to me
gees, I'm glad it's Holloween tonight

Nice use of surroundings and personal perspective to arrive at the desired effect of the piece. [The "kicker" at the end, I thought, was especially well contrived.]

You won't get me out there on a dark, rainy night! I had to go for a blood test today, the Path Lab had a bat hanging over the chair I sat in!! It reminded me of Ed Kostro's poem with the picture of the blood bag and bat hanging on the same stand! Jackie <> <
