The Dervish Twirls

The dervish twirls, Round and round. In deep meditation, He uplifts himself, Into a realm beyond, His white skirt swirls, Round and round. His head elated, Towards the skies, He raises his right hand, As the left points down, Round and round. He no longer is there, One foot is set, As the other turns, Like the earth, His body rotates, Round and round.

i recently watched a documentary on Rumi - and this was how he began creating poetry...walking and meditating outloud around and around a pole...one day poetry came out of his mouth...devotees which followed his spiritual teaching became the whirling dervishes we are aware of today.
