The lovely city of Istanbul,
Is covered in white snow,
Purifying it from the pollution,
Dirt, Crowd and Traffic,
A fate that befalls all,
Vast metropolitan cities,
That have outgrown their sizes,
Become outnumbered by population,
The city has taken a break,
Like a short hypnotic daze,
A pause from life on the fast lane,
As snow flakes continue to fall,
Covering every inch of grey,
Green, Black and Blue,
The smoke rises from chimney tops,
Challenging the stubborn snow,
That still falls unperturbed,
With the quest to beautify,
And garb the bride with long lost purity.
The lovely city, ... is dirty and polluted, ... is a contradiction. The fact that snow has temporarily covered it up, is not. I hope that there is beauty still hidden from the crowding, hurried modern population that rushes by, oblivious to the beauty within.
First Edition Translation of Teselas by Carmen Crespo X111 César Simón Poetry Prixe 2016 Translated from Spanish by Robin Ouzman Hislop and Amparo Arrospíde
This collection of poetry addresses the nature of time, reflections on the natural world, the difficulty of loss,
contemporary social issues and gratitude for life.
In the Whirlwind is a poetic storm that frees history from the cages of corruption and puts it in the hands of everyday people. Words are weaved into a new fashion statement that has nothing to do with runways but everything to do with projects!
