Beneath the knotted maple tree,
Reflections find their way to me.
Those memories from the past--
How time goes by so fast.
I can see my sister here
In an image that’s so clear,
Pushing her daughter in the tree
Who was swinging happily
From a tree branch up above--
You could feel a mother’s love.
Now I sit here in the swing
Pondering on everything.
I see my husband standing here,
Saying, “Let me push you, Dear.”
I had a smile on my face
As he pushed at a steady pace.
My feet dangled in the air
As I swung without a care.
I began to remember when
I was five, and way back then,
From my swingset I would swing
And sometimes I would even sing.
My feet would touch the sky it seemed.
Sometimes I had lazily dreamed
With eyes closed, I was there
Flying freely in the air.
All these memories flood my mind
As I touch these threads of time.
Under the tree that touches sky
I find myself all misty-eyed.
As fireflies begin to dance
I’m thankful for a second chance
To relive these memories that I see,
Beneath the knotted maple tree.
