As a child I was terrified the fist time I watched the scene from "The Wizard of Oz" with the monkey men in it. I had three older brothers.One of them got the idea to send me to the basement for something. When I went to get whatever it was they locked the door at the top of the stairs and shut the basement lights off. Then they started making weird noises down the registers and saying that the monkey men were coming. I don't like basements to this day and live in a house without one.
Locked in a room
So far beneath
The dark and gloom
Bear on my soul
No light be seen
Here in this hell
With fright I scream
Down in this hole
The voices start
The red eyes glow
Stopping my heart
Falling and then
Closer they come
There's no escape
No running from
The monkey men

I'm sure it was done in fun not knowing how it would affect you later in life ... I can't watch spooky movies alone and I need my pillow to hide from the scary parts lol Great poem!

So that is why you're always trying to see the light! It was those green witches that got me. And the way they melted into a green soup when you threw water on them. Without it I think about it, those monkeys had bat wings.
My partner loves to garden as you know, but she's deathly afraid of angle worms. Seems that her brothers were always scaring her with them when they were young. Kids shouldn't do that, but they do, and we have to get over fear of flying sometime.
OMG how cruel! Unfortunately their funny prank probably didn't occur to them that it would affect you the rest of your life! Don't let them live it down!
I was afraid of the movie the blob, I was just a kid too, and when I saw the green glowing ooze slither under doors or from under beds grabbing people it left an impression with me too!
