A glimpse is all it was
White shadow thin and tall
Passed by the doorway as
I sat facing the hall

Glued to my seat I blinked
Thinking it was the way
The daylight played through panes
And curtains as they may

Perplexed I rose and walked
Went through the doorway where
I'd seen that shadow white
But there was nothing there

Turning I bent my head
Still searching for some sign
Of specre thin and tall
With gown of white so fine

Something upon the rug
Seemed somhow out of place
I bent to pick it
A remnant of white lace
