That's what bookmarks are for. I agree it is a travesty to read the ending and then say you've read the book. But in the case of some of my books, you probably could skip chapters. ;-)
In life, as your allegory suggests it is not good to jump to the conclusion too soon. It is far better to take each day at a time and live it well, with a keen eye on the future to steer you.

Life is indeed a beautiful book and when we try to look at the next page or the next chapter, we will find out that these pages are still empty, waiting to be filled by what we do each and every day, the path that we go and the choices that we make.
So we have to wait patiently and read it all instead, word by word, line by line, page by page and chapter by chapter.
