The shadows cast across the lawn of white
So black against the snow that winter's night
With wind the shadows danced as I gazed still
My chin in hands elbows on windowsill
Was entertained by nature's evening show
These dancing shadows moving 'cross the snow
It seemed the tips of branches reached to me
As if to make sure that their moves I'd see
I nodded so to let them know I saw
It seemed they bowed as I looked on in awe
Continuing this show until the morn'
Whence I to bed away from sill was torn
I'll go back to my windowsill tonight
To watch tree shadows giv'n by the moonlight
