The mirror on the wall only reflects our outside while the scars and stains on our heart and soul are hidden for the world.
Only real Friends (with a capital F) can see our true reflection and see the pain behind our smile.
Without a word they will wrap an arm around us, kiss the pain of our scars and give us a real smile.
What you have expressed through your verses is very much and quite exactly the way that I have felt for a long time now. I can relate with respect. Love and best wishes to you, Jane.

Last week I had my picture taken to be broadcast throughout the huge company- so everybody knows everybody.
We tried a few shots- and I immediately knew this wasn't going to get any better.
I don't always hate the mirror, but I always hate the camera.
When people come in and see me they smile- bet you get that too.
Let that be our mirrors.

Hiding hurts and mental (sometimes physical) pain with that beautiful smile of yours is a defense mechanism necessary to keep everyone off-guard. Your demons are well hid, but are still close to the surface.
The poetic truth well expressed. However, you are not much different then the rest. For we all experience a life full of ups and downs. We hide our sadness and outside we smile like clowns. But there will always be a better day yes I pray it will come soon, maybe today!
