The Mentor Marsh harbors inspiring mystery.

Poem Artwork

A strange mist rolled out of the Marsh
The things it touched would die
The smell of rot within it's trail
A trail which looked like serpent's tail
The slime it left just as a snail
As folks ran up hill high

All wondered where from whence it came
Nothing like it before
It lurked within the Marsh for feed
The coming made townfolk take heed
All those it touched would start to bleed
But still it wanted more

A lady dressed in red appeared
None knew from whence she came
Her eyes seemed like two coals aglow
What was her purpose none did know
She raised her arms o'er Marsh down low
Murmured somebody's name

The mist reared up a shriek was heard
To those up on the hill
A howl of torture from the mist
As if forsaken by some tryst
A shackle fell from "Lady's wrist
The Marsh again was still

What was this strange ungodly thing
That happened there that night
Could it have been that Satan's wife
Had come to fin'ly take his life
For all the suffering and strife
Then she was out of sight

Some speak of that horrific eve
Some never say a word
Some cannot sleep thinking of it
Some keep the evenng candles lit
Nothing of it was ever writ
The night the mist was lured

This one missed Halloween by a couple of weeks. It's still quite haunting and mystifying.

Remind me not to go walking with you in that swamp your your home. It appears there are disgusting things there that might rise up and hurt.

Girl, you got one hell of an imagination!

George said it completely right, Jane. You and your Muse have been kicking ass lately with your poetry. This could be a series of like-minded poems.

A marvelous piece of poetry that's as good as any I have ever read and surpasses many also.
