I won't say you're crazy, because it has happened to me twice. Once with my dad and uncle present, and once with my wife present. The fist time it was close to what you described. the second time with my wife present, it was two cigar shaped objects. There's no other explanation other than ufo's.
We saw one too, in the West with the sun behind it, just after sundown in 1957, I believe. It hovered for a while and moved around in an unnatural way. And then, moved rapidly skyward at a rate that far exceeded any jet plane flying at the time.
My high school friend who has written his memoir, Watching from the Edge of Infinity, was responsible for several years keeping track of for all objects in the air and space for the Air Force. While constant sightings were reported in the news, all of those were easily explained by the secret surveillance the US was doing to avoid being blindsided by nuclear missiles and errant satellites being launched willy-nilly at the time.
