The Garden of Death (Finnish: Kuoleman puutarha) (1896) is a painting by Finnish symbolist painter Hugo Simberg. Like many of Simberg's paintings, it depicts a gloomy, otherworldly scene. The central figures are reminiscent of the classic black-clad Grim Reaper, but paradoxically are tending to gardens; traditionally symbols of birth or renewal.

Poem Artwork

Is death the end
Does life go on
Promise of everlasting life
I think upon

Who tends the souls
Until sent back
To happiiness or earthly strife
Knowing I lack

Wondering I
Naught goes to waste
Hypothesis so many rife
Yet none encased

One more thought yet
I've heard it said
Unless ye all be born again
Rings in my head

~Jane~
The garden to be said incarnates the dead to life once
and again! Enlightening prose!

to believe death is not important is futile, to live preparing for it allows us to survive its embrace ...

enlightened work, Jane ...

So much time and energy devoted to this as though it was so important. Perhaps it is the selfish gene in us that wants us to carry on. Why we are so proud of our families and nurture our children so much, seeking everlasting life, either through them, or some of as you said, many hypotheses, of what comes after.

I am at peace not worried about it at all.

The last great mystery,
Has not been penned.
We will not know the answer,
Until the end.

Pretty heavy stuff on this write.

I think the only way this world can continue is for God or whosoever allows each of us to reincarnate...we may come back to this world in assorted other forms, but when we do we get to keep this world alive and thriving...i know my dad wanted to come back as a bull, so he could screw with the female cows & eat grass all day...weird man he was, but ya gotta love that wish...-e-

I do not believe in death being the end but rather the start of a new beginning; for some, it may be back to the beginning here until lessons are learned. Of course I am not sure of anything. I would have left long ago if I thought this is all there was to the whole thing of living here on this planet. Just my thoughts. Nicely done, Jane. Love and best wishes to you,

Regis

Love art and at times have created what after I'm gone not many will wonder what it really depicted. Part of the dead poets society. Art and poetry have to be evaluated by thinkers that see more than the brush strokes, more than the color, and what is in between both. Life!

Born again has more that that very obvious one, methinks, Jane. Wish you had found a photo of Simberg's work, it would have gone good with your poem. A poem which caused me to think. Fine writing!

P.S.: Ahhh, the photo wasn't up when I commented. Yes! Perfect.
