I lie awake in the wee hours
Listening to the wailing sound
Of freight trains trav'ling through the night
Love to hop on and go
To get away from everything
But then again myself I bring
Feel like a change of scene I need
Then I stand up to know
I hear the wailing as I write
Pretending I am on that train
Seems to give comfot e'en be slight
Taking my cares and woe
Clickity clack clicity clack
Take me away don't bring me back
A blanket and small backpack
New things to see and know
I need to stay just where I am
So many need me here I know
There goes another freight train by
Howling taking my thoughts away
Blow whistle sounding low
'WHAT COULD BE'...BUT, 'WHAT IS'. CERTAINLY A PREVALENT DILEMMA THAT WE ALL HAVE WALKED THROUGH. AND THEN, WE CHOOSE 'WHAT IS', REALIZING GOD HAS PUT US IN A POSITION, WHERE AS YOU SAID...SO MANY NEED US WHERE WE ARE NOW. FREIGHT TRAIN, GREAT SHARING. THANK YOU, JANE. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS
We used to live in a shack very close to the railroad tracks so your poem is special and also for the theme that you express within. Thank you, Jane. Love and best wishes to you,
Trains have always been a part of my life, and I too live near tracks. I can hear the whistles blow as they go through town crossings. When I was a kid, there was a siding right next to where my dad worked. I became friends with the engineers, and often would get to ride in the cab while they did their jobs. I was also fond of putting a penny on the tracks. Last year there was a steam engine that came through town twice. They were majestic machines indeed.
Yours in a getaway mode, and mine bringing you back.
