This poem comes from a situation far too close to me.

Poem Artwork

Why do some people have children
The most precious people on earth
Screaming and beating them
This once a new born child
Taking their feeling of worth

Ache in my heart tears in my eyes
Smiles are now sad and afraid
No child asked to be born
Into a life like this
No joy no feeling of mirth

Jesus did love little children
Woe to those who lay a hand
Little ones pray possess
Safety and happiness
All their lives starting at birth

Fortunately, most kids are treated well by their parents.

Last week, a young woman dropped off a nine-month-old and three-year-old at the fire station that serves my house. They are only allowed to accept infants, so they told her that they would have to call the police. She ran off. Later, she returned to the attention of media, saying that she never had wanted to drop them off. The father also appeared, although they were not together… Sad state of affairs.

I live with the reality of child abuse every day and see what trauma these young and older children must live through I work with them and do all I can to help them have a better life and to feel loved and cared for by people that have good hearts and will help them achieve their goals in life. I pray for those that I cannot help and they are mistreated , some dont make it and those bring tears to my heart

In light of the sorrowful death of the refugee child on the shore of Turkey, your poem is most apt and very touching. Thank you. John

Or, Jerry, they themselves were berated and beaten. Child abuse is learned and can be stopped once one overcomes their anger. The choice is ours.

Always,

Deborah

I once had the biggest argument and fight here in AD about the same idea. No child asks to be born and then be abused to death. I was just saying that people should think twice before they have sex and bring unwanted babies into the world. Both men and women (not just the women) should use some kind of birth control if they don't plan on having babies. Some anti-abortioinists got my message wrong and started to fight with me in AD. I was just saying not all women and men are cut out to be parents and they should never have any if they don't like children. They could have let the baby be born and give the baby up for adoption for a better life.

A thought-provoking write. I hate to see children being abused. All children need to be loved when they come into this world, because you don't know how their lives are going to be when they grow up. You love them when they are young so they will always hsve the best childhood memories.

Oh, I so relate to this one, Jane, and you know my story. I firmly believe that those who berate and beat children are doing it because of their own insecurities, and most of the time it has nothing to do with the kids. They just have to bear the brunt of the hell they are put through.
