While growing up a lot of our time was spent on farms as many of my family's friends lived on them.

Poem Artwork

Remembering the good ol' days
Swinging from ropes to piles of hay
Then falling rolling down the piles
Bringing about so many smiles

Running from geese who nipped our legs
Gathering baskets full of eggs
The gentle cows with big brown eyes
Would wander fields under blue skies

'Twas fun to visit farms like these
Then on back home to lives of ease
Taking for granted nevermore
The food we would buy at the store

This brings back vivid memories, Jane. I was raised on a farm and had my own little hobby one down in the valley until "development" forced us away. Love and best wishes,

Regis

My childhood exactly! I sure hope kids these days get to visit farms like we did. Unfortunately, so many family farms are gone along with all those wonderful experiences when we ran wild with our cousins and friends on their farms.

Way back then I remember reading a story--I think it was in grade school--when we lived in the city, about city kids who thought that milk "grew" in a bottle. At the time I thought, how strange. Here in Houston, our zoo has a small "farm" section where city kids can interact with, feed and pet, farm animals. But it's not the same as running wild on the farm, jumping into a haystacks, fishing in creeks and other dangerous activities like stepping in cow pies. ;-)

Didn't live on a farm, but went to school upstate that had many open fields where horses grazed along with other animals. It was beautiful.

Never had visits to the farm like that. I was strictly a city boy in my youth. It was only later, in my travels, that I came across village life and loved it. What a wonderful poem. John

This brought me back to where my grandparents lived. Everything you said in your poem held true there also.
