I could tell you about a wicked adventure that met me on a train.
But I would probably get barred from ever posting again. Of course, I was young then--and quite gymnastic...
Lately I've been dreaming rolling over and crushing things like little kids, pets… etc. When I get someone to look, nothing is under my elbow being crushed even though I think I feel it.
Last night I rolled over and crushed a devil's food cake muffin with chocolate frosting. I could smell it. But when my helper came and straightened out my arm, there was no squished cake and frosting on it. I do recall eating one before going to bed the night before.
As you can see, my dreams/nightmares are not near as intense as yours. ;-)
A surreal acceptance of a personal metaphor to poetically describe the effort some take to run away from their past, or try and just avoid their past, only to find without the past, it's difficult to fully appreciate the present. As the subtext of your poem asks of the reader, lessons are forever finding ways to give us a flash redux of past experiences as we age, some thinking they're getting away from that which was uncomfortable, only to find without such memories, comfort might go unappreciated.

My train's a commin',
it's traveled from afar.
It carries my past,
stowed in the "baggage" car.
