Such an apt and timely write, Jane. I have always cared deeply about nature and my "surroundings." I personally took on the oil companies, Shell, Esso, Chevron, Turbo, here some 25 years ago or so for their callous disregard for the environment. Eventually, they were fine one million dollars. What a joke for these companies, that is "chicken feed." One thing did come out of my battle with them, they were forced to upgrade their filtering systems and reduce the dumping of fuel in the nearby watercourse. Love and peace to you,
It caused me to rethink childhood teachings. Noah and the Ark.
The Great Flood. We were told that the next time the Earth would
be destroyed by Fire ! It made me envision volcanoes erupting all
over the globe, all at once ! Fire and Brimstone !
WRONG ! The Earth was Not destroyed by water - It survived !
Mankind not present on the Ark, and Animals not present on the
Ark, these were what the Flood Cleansed !
So, now we are faced with Global Warming. Climate Change.
Melting Icecaps - rising Oceans - Forest fires - perhaps a combination
of both Deluge and Inferno, simultaneously ?
Historically, many ancient civilizations have come and gone. In some
cases, new ones sprouted up on their Ruins. As if the Phoenix arose
from the ashes ? History repeating itself ?
Ultimately, it seems to me that “Mother Nature” - a mere personification
created somehow in the minds of men, is perennial, omni-present, ongoing,
continuing ad infinitum !
If, in fact, there is a God... and if, in fact, He was the Creator of all this...
how can Mere Mortal Man be so brazen as to believe that he has any
Control whatsoever to stop what is occuring, or to actually Save this Big
Blue Marble ? This “Third Rock from the Sun” ?
In closing these thoughts now, Doris Day’s lyrics pop into my limited grey
matter ...
“Que Sera Sera ... Whatever Will Be, Will Be ...
The Future is not ours to see ... Que Sera Sera” !

This is so true and beautifully expressed in poetry. The Earth will get rid of us if we keep abusing her. I'm afraid it may be too late for our species.
