The Fate Peddler

By: Karen Hecht Springer

April 23, 2015

She heard the wagon’s wheels roar

Peddler trading all his wares

Knocking, knocking on her door

With his remedies and cares

When he got no answer

Back down the road he went

His horse a dainty dancer

And, she, not having spent

The time to meet

Saw the butterfly that followed him

Metamorphosis complete

Rainbow wings a sunlit prism

In the eagerness of pursuit

It cares not where it goes

She turns away, reties her boot

Wondering what it knows

Karen

Sometimes the peddler is peddling false goods, so it is wise to know the difference.

That only comes with experience and intuition, and not a little observation.

I'm not quite sure what it all means, but it's an intriguing and well-written poem!

I think I got the metaphor or the allegory in this intriguing bit of poetry. Kudos.

I'll bet that peddler was selling Avon.

She missed it! Opportunity of a lifetime. Don't you hate it when that happens. She needed a new pepper mill anyway and, since she didn't answer the door quickly enough, now she has to eat the whole grounds, since she has no pepper mill that functions, to grind up the peppercorns. Just sayin'. ;-)

An interesting and intriguing write which, to me, has symbolism. Your verses awaken the thought process. Thank you for sharing, Karen. Love and best wishes,

Regis

Interesting to say the least is this mystery-laced poetry, Karen. First we wonder why she didn't let the peddler show her his wares (Oh my, that could be taken another way.) Then she becomes engrossed with the butterfly who was following the peddler, wondering what the peddler had that attracted the butterfly.
