"Did you ever want to freeze frame a single moment of your day, and look at it and say, 'This is not my life!'" - Robin Williams

Satan Grins

Karen Hecht Springer

June 14, 2018

Brother, can you spare a dime

Sister, don’t turn away this time

I’m cold and broken and the window rattles

Satan grins while Fate tattles

I’m amused by life’s deviant arts

Humanity martyrs its animal self

Shattered glass and mosaic parts

Who I am, propped up on the shelf

Brother, can you spare a dime

Sister, don’t turn away this time

I’m cold and broken and the window rattles

Satan grins while Fate tattles

I met the demons years ago

Newly sprouted seedlings of doubt

Through cloaked mirrors I still know

Who I was, before the flame went out

Brother, it’s a paradigm

Sister, the clock’s about to chime

I’m cold and broken and the window rattles

Satan grins while Fate tattles

Thought provoking and heart wrenching.

The mirror does tell a person's own past and present and the question of who that person has become. What matters most is what will become of that person in the future which in reality all lies in the person's own hands. Satan has no part of the person's future unless it is allowed to intrude.
