It may seem strange to write about a battered old saucepan
but this was no ordanary one
It sprung a leak the other day
and sadly without thinking
I threw it away
and mow it's gone.
It had been in our family
long before I was born
it was used everyday
and it broke my heart
to throw it away.
For all the deliscious soups goulash and pasta
that it had contained
and the mouth watering delectable smells
from the kitchen
the shouts from the kitchen from my parents
'Come on set the table dinners made'.
All the warm broths and porriadige scoffed
before school on a cold winters day
And all the laughter tears and conversations
we had around the table
before the saucepan was washed
and put away.
It was much more than a saucepan
because it held a lot of memories
now my parents have both
passed away
and it was one of the last things left to remind me
of how things used to be.
Now, I have to buy a new one
and accept it's demise
it's gone like my family
forever.
