Raspberries were wild and sweet

Cold sandwich and a bottle of root beer
Each thought a blessing as I am

So much of all the naive
Still see the face of the first killed

Bottom feeder of life all dressed war
Never to return to old
new dirt filled

All the old fishing holes
String and hook left for spinning reels

Cards now found inside the hand by the coffin
Child looks at me and smiles

Wild and carefree inside a bottle of Jack
Reach forward never to look at where I have come

Sweet lips share the past and drive the road
Yet there are no payments returned just glimmers of what
a man is and was.
