Song country

There was a haze upon the western Texas sky
a whisper in the wind of those that live and those that die
All my shadows left me to go on back home
My lady was riding but she was riding alone

I was running with a bandito or two
and the willing of the flesh
burnt a soul or two (chorus)

I was just outside Laredo
with the wind in my hand
I was thinking about cowboys
About to make my last stand

I reached for my pistol
Burnt the fingers on my hand
Sun kept me to blind
Tasted holy water in my mind

Carbine full of flowers
Boots full of sand
mental image
of the Rio grand

I was running with a bandito or two
and the willing of the flesh
burnt a soul or two (chorus)

Wash my soul in water
Drink my brandy straight
Ask for forgiveness
Prayed its not too late

She threw her body at me
open doors that I could see
cried how she loved me
swore I'd never be free

Dust and sand fill my memory
from the time and place that I was born
Charge goes the trumpet
Love and death play the same horn

I was running with a bandito or two
and the willing the flesh
burnt a soul or two (chorus)

Found the last of teardrops
in the bottle on sand
never pulled the pistol
just became part of the land

Walter,

Somehow I missed this one. Beautifully penned lyrics of life's journeys. (And being a Texan, I really appreciate the location! LOL)
