I was frustrated with the English professor and put my thoughts into a poem. It's a recipe for the subject matter we were taught.
I found work in an idle life-a higher power to overcome strife
A helpless being in my Freudian psychology
I had stuffed my flatulent cabbage with my own isolated ideology
My philosophical choice had always been a demented Rolls Royce, but then,
It was fed to me by thousands of mass media skins
The capitalist crackers, and the socialist soups they feed ya
Now suddenly stopped stone cold dead by the idiotic isometric ideology in
My hegemonic hedonistic head –when suddenly I epiphanized
AND A SINGLE SOLITARY FREE THOUGHT floated just above my brittle benign
Brain and I CAUGHT IT, wrapped it up in silicone sociology-for I found
A recipe of the image I had of my ‘Hegel’s Other’ that lied
But was verbalized by ‘Saussure’s Signified’ with a taste of ‘Tates’
Psychoanalysis – that makes it all so hard to resist
Next, with a dash of oily sea salt and a sprinkle of pink or red philosophy
But first I killed it good with greasy gravy of hegemony
I kneaded it all with a dissected deconstructed discourse
And structuralized my dialectical demented force with a cup of
‘Wright’s’ Narrative to racism on the side and 2 cups of Feminism to stir and
Fry – add a sprinkle of Marxist oil we must buy and then
I baked my Imperialistic Capitalistic life for 30 minutes then Post Modernist stirred
Up my MATURITY, and I waited for 40 minutes while ‘Said’s Orientalism’
Poached my Maternity – next I boiled it in a pan of “Spivek’s
Subalternity that cracked and freed my ideology then
Baked it all till burned and brittle at 350 degrees
This was my college degree
Now I’ve returned my mind to normalcy and
Returned to my Declaration of Independence Democracy
Thank God for my sanity
Each person is but a grain of sand resting beside the sea. This thought sets the tone for Jill Eisnaugle’s latest poetry collection, Beside Still Waters.
