THE FUTURE

What may the future hold?

A life bleak and so cold.

Buildings of concrete and stone.

Leafless trees of green foam.

Sunlight only a reflection.

Lighted sabers for protection.

A future hard to bear.

A future all too near.

I do hope I'm wrong and the future for us is bright and colorful. Parks with animals and birds. Children playing in the sunshine. I will think of this when I lay my head down to sleep.

If I compare snapshots taken, say of New York City in 2000, 1900, and 1800, I see a progression from wood to masonry, and then to steel and glass. My vision of the future in 2100 would be a very colorful and green New York City, largely because of the necessity to overcome 200 years of fossil fuel consumption. Central Park emerged from the rubble of the 19th century, to encompass the entire city in the 22nd.

I certainly hope that my vision of is more accurate than yours.
