There are lots of turns here inm this poerm, Ronald. I really identify with your last stanza and coda. I've felt that way.

I haven't seen the movie, Last Man Standing, but it sounds quite traumatic, Ron. Your poem is very direct. I think we all feel at times that we are the last man standing. A thought provoking piece of writing.

How this touches me, but oh how sad that one must see their life in this manner. I have seen the movie, we can regret all we want if the living are about or are gone. To me this speaks inner reflection of one's self. Perhaps I am wrong, but this is my feeling. No-one should have to carry such a heavy burden. What we all must do is let it go. It serves no purpose and adds nothing to our existence. Such desperation Ronald.

Like Richard, I am not familiar with the movie. I like the overall impression of standing on the edge of the world that to me seems to be linked to the "human condition". The lines "There was nothing to die for,but so many did." and "Nowhere is a very lonely place, I don't want to hang around." resonate with me.

MAN IS A GREGARIOUS CREATURE ... ERGO, UNWANTED SOLITUDE CAUSES LONELINESS. IT IS SAID THAT A PERSON CAN FEEL TOTALLY ALONE, EVEN IN A CROWD ... WHY?

IS IT MENTAL ATTITUDE? IS IT BECAUSE THAT INDIVIDUAL IS SO IMMENSELY DIFFERENT? DO CIRCUMSTANCES, OR ENVIRONMENT CAUSE THIS DEEP-SEATED FEELING?

"WALK A MILE IN MY MOCCASINS!" COMES TO MIND. 'OTHERS' CAN NOT FULLY EMPATHIZE WITH SUCH A PERSON, AS THEY CAN NEVER EXPERIENCE THE SAME SET OF CIRCUMSTANCES, BUT THEY MAY WELL ATTEMPT TO SYMPATHIZE, WHICH SAID PERSON MIGHT WELL INTERPRET IN A NEGATIVE MANNER, THUS FEELING EVEN MORE LONELY. IS THIS A POSSIBILITY?

Interesting poem,Ron ... though it felt a bit forced it was intriguing and well written ...

I'm not familiar with the referenced movie, but your last stanza, to wit. "... My chances are all gone, ...there are no chances left. ... The world is on my shoulders, ...and it's too much to heft. " ...leaves me with the sense of a pending suicide. Combine that with the title and it leads me to believe the last man standing intends to kill himself, thus ending mankind.

I believe I have enjoyed reading this more than any other poem of yours that comes to mind. There is just something lost and forlorn and DARK about it that grabs me. Good writing, Ron.
