Doing the Quantum Jump

Now let me see if I have this right.

In the quantum world,
nothing happens until we see it happen.
Well, sort of see it happen
in the mind,

in a world of unseen subatomic particles,
indivisible things, we’re told;
things and observer codependent:
sans observer, sans things:
nothing.

Is the moon there if you don’t look at it?
How do you know?
Is this a quantum quirk?

You got to keep your mind
on the show,
reality set to a tune
you may not apprehend,

a wild, uninhibited, fleeting dance
by the numbers,
things dancing here      and there,

always here to there,
nothing
in between,
just a hop here,
a spin there,
doing the quantum jump.

In the quantum world, so they say,
past and present give meaning to the future.

Eliot probably had it right:

today and tomorrow
submerged in yesterday,
and vice versa.

As did Keats,
certain of nothing
but the truth
imagination senses.

Truth, reality: quantum things
dancing from here               to there,
naught in between,
doing the quantum jump
in the mind.

And me:
my hand moves up
and down
side to side over the surface
of the crude unfinished
wall,
my hand bleeding,
but
the wall is smoooooth,
if I say so.

What is is as it is in the mind,
as simple as that…
I think.

Then again I might be nuts.

Hugh Everett III--and Schroedinger's Cat plus "curioser and curioser." Gene, you pose the question so well!

I like this one too, Gene, but I had to hit Control shift to enlarge it several times, it was so tiny. Ye olde tree falling in the forest thing, eh? etc. As babies, as you know, if Mommy goes in the next room, she does not exist anymore. Hence, crying. So if we do not see the moon..... in fact, whatever we don't perceive, who's to say it's there. Is it just a majority thing? Is the moon there or not there, since there are blind people? Anyway, I like this, I like its rollicking rhythm and fun. Thanks, Gene. julianza Oh, and if you're nuts, I'm nuts too. It is, of course, the only sane way to be. The line re Keats reminded me of his "heard melodies are sweet/but those unheard are sweeter....." for some reason......... Don't stop being "nutty;" you're not. You're Gene. You must hail from poetic genes!

If you be nuts, the rest of mankind, at least those that belong to religions must be nuts too--since science, sans quantum mechanics, proves something small and out of sight is really there but an evangelical believes in going to heaven through love of someone that may have never been what they claim he was. What has more power? Faith or science. On the other hand, scientists seem to be proving that a God must exist but does that support what evangelicals believe? Didn't the three monkeys gesture with hands to see no evil, hear no evil or speak no evil (not mankind)?

Gene, I just love this...the topic and the mood that it was written in. And I love how you have separated the words "here to there." This goes into my library!

Oh you are perfectly sane in an temporary insane world. All that we see is not as it appears, but appears as we would like it to be....

Be always safe,

Gene,
Nuts? Definitely not! What an exploration you take on here and how well you handle it with a mild slightly skeptical tone which is as it should be when we move in a mixed media world of reality, perceived reality and fantasy and imagination. Wonderfully challenging thoughts.

"today and tomorrow
submerged in yesterday" and

"certain of nothing
but the truth
imagination senses"

These are my favorite lines. Love the subject matter; read and write of it often. It's a very empowering experience to align oneself with universal laws. I love the idea that we can consciously choose which thoughts to impress upon our subconscious that they may ultimately manifest in the physical world. To focus on an ideal and hold it with such fidelity that it manifests through materializing circumstances is the gift of will.
