Sturdy struts the soldier boy
upon the month o’ green pastures
bold along the path to his new found luve
all green with springtyme promise
and naught in his thoughts of
any darkness
....
Slowly sighting the soldier boy
from among the fronds o’ silent green
stroking the length o’ his new found luve
all virgin in her oiled sweat
and naught in his thoughts
....
Singing the song that soldiers sing
when thinking o’ her eyes laughing at
his stumbling, stuttering words o’ luve
that leaves her breathless
.....
Humming the tuneless nothingness
along the avenue of instant death
his cheek caresses the cold stretched steel
.....
Nearing now to the arms o’ his lass
from his soldier-breast his luve a-bursting
.....
A silver shot rings out.
