The Cinnamon Bear

I wrote this a wee while ago for a ladye who told me that she still had her childhood teddy bear.
...and now she is a grandma...and her grandchild now plays with the bear..
So he has been around for quite awhile.
She named her bear..
Cinnamon Bear..with the shoe button eyes...
I've no idea what shoe buttons are..

The Cinnamon Bear..
.............

Once upon a far off tyme
when fairies danced to laughing jigs
and lovers swirled in heady dance
and love was given ‘mongst barley rigs,
A girl child was born.............

and to her side to hush her cries
came...a cinnamon bear with shoe button eyes...
...........................

Once upon a bairns lyfe
when play was fun and laughing loud
and hopscotch hopping did she go
and squealing screaming in the crowd,
And when into her dream tyme bed.......

He watched over her sleepy sighs,
her cinnamon bear with his shoe button eyes..
.................................

Once upon a first love new
when strange and lovely lyfe was known
and love was shared in youth’s embrace
and lovely sacred seeds were sown,
And in the comfort of her room....

she shared the wherefore and the whys
with her cinnamon bear with the shoe button eyes.....
.........................

Once upon a pregnant pause
when family, friends and neighbours prayed
whilst suffering with her love’s first born
the babe in swaddling love it lay...
And when the babe did gently sleep.......

she crept unto the tender care....
in the shoe button eyes of her cinnamon bear.....
......................

Once upon a passing day
when weeks turn months to lengthy years
she celebrated, daughter and a son
and through the laughter and the tears,
When lyfe was hectic.....

she found a loving comfort there
in the shoe button eyes of her cinnamon bear...

................................

Once upon a grannie’s luve
when skirling, birling grandson girns
when bubblin’ laughter frae him spills
she shaks her nod at his bairnie tirns....
And hushing him to gentle sleep......

She looks down upon her loving pair......
Her grandchild and her cinnamon bear....

.................................................................

I had a bear once, with eyes like Cinnamon Bear, he was a dark yellow, and I hated it when mother put him on top of the bed, coz i liked him in bed wi me, where it was warm. But then again, Elephant, lamby, and a 100 other dollies and animals all lived under my quilt.

I liked this ode to bear bear.

Hi Graham,
For some strange reason, I was half expecting to see the Balmaha Bear appear on the banks of Loch Lomond.
Many years ago I visited Inchcaileach Island in the centre of the Loch, where people had lived for centuries, I think that area is now taken over by the heritage trust, but I remember seeing the Balmaha bears for sale in the craft shops
(Probally made in China now, like the flags)
If I don’t catch you before, hae yersel a Guid New Year, lang may yer lum reek.
Cheers Mor.

I still have my Teddy my Father brought for me when I was born......he's calld Grrr lol

I collect bears...(antique's) some look like they've so much to say, mind you if they spoke I'd fall off my chair. lol

This was a pure delight...Love the title....the form .......and most of all the feeling it gives to me.

Happy New Year Graham.

o, this is adorable...i still have one of my beloved mother's teddies (God rest Mom's soul)...this brought back beautiful memories of my Mom's bear collection--she had over 800. when she died, we gave most of them to the children's ward at the local hospital, to the firestation and police station (to comfort sick or frightened children), and to the nursing homes, to comfort aged ones, who could use a friend. :)

thanks for the memory jog--

(((HUGS))) and love,

karla. :)
