I've been in Canada for barely ten years...As much as I miss home...this is indeed ..a lovely land..

Canada...A Lovely Land.

Decending in siller capsule
t’ween the binking o’ the lichts,
upon a foreign runway fae the
cauld atlantic hichts,
the screeching o’ the tarmac’d tyres
the belly bouncing landing
the stink o’ sweating strangers
in the narrow isles standing.

The struggle through the customs
the signing for my dirks,
the oriental quiz-look
fae a lass, at my strange quirks,
the lang walk through the airport
the waiting throng ahead
my look for recognition
fae a luve sae lang unsaid.

The hotness o’ my lang syne tears
at the sicht o’ sister kin,
the sweetness o’ a tyme lang past
when baith o’ us did rin,
doon arklay street...whaur we wad see
oor stoorie angel mither,
the memorie that we shared o’ her
when we baith grat the gither.

A strange..but promised land this is
that noo I stand upon,
a land o’ forests deep and green
whaur niver the sun hae shone,
the endless rolling prairies
the mounts sae highland high
the vastness o’ my wonderment
as struggling i dae vie....

tae understand the feelings
that overwhelm me,
the splendour o’ this Canada
fae sea to shining sea.........

my blood is noo a pairt o’ ye
my kin in stane they are
my smile rides ‘cross the Kootenays
on horseback..

I sip a Lagavulin
tae a patriot i ken,
wha’s bluid flows in the land o’ leal
in norland wyld glen,
a toast tae ye auld celtic freend
tae abodie here an’ a’
a toast tae this vast paradise
this land o’ Canada...
