Sleep & Co.


 

The faintly glowing sun sparked a new morning

And awakening in the gentle breeze

The little boy picks himself up

To the sounds of birdsong from the trees

 

Rubbing sleep from his weary eyes

And fixing a grin on his face

He shows no anxiety

No, not a trace

Oh how can you wake

Like a brand new day

When you’ve just had a bad dream?

Oh show me the way

Oh how can you wake

Like a brand new day

When dreams curse your sleep?

Oh please, please show me the way

 

At night you hear the roaring

Of the bi-planes overhead

The ferryman ships you off

To places far from your bed

 

Yawning with excessive fatigue

The boy lies down on his bed

And closes his eyes with gladness

To allow dreams to flood his head

Oh how can you sleep

Like a dormant day

Knowing of your bad dreams?

Oh show me the way

Oh how can you sleep

When “The Tempest” play

Becomes an inner reality?

Oh please show me, show me the way

Eileen made a good point. Children don't dwell on things like we do. That's something we learn to do as we grow up. But your poem asks a good question. Makes you think about letting go. Well done, Andrea. Glad to see another post from you.

Excellent poem Andrea! WE can earn a lesson from
children. and that is to quickly forget things. Most
times childrens minds flit from ont thing to another
with lightning speed , so they don't dwell on matters
like we adults do.;-)

Andrea, this is a lovely lovely write. I know how this young one feels!
It's hard to rest at night when dreams keep flowing.
