A good night for walking, I think
When the moon hides its face from me
And the streets are choked with fog,
Trapping my footsteps with silent echoes
As I go about my way.
Houses become monstrosities
That slouch, motionless as they sneer
At me with glowing rectangle eyes,
The madness they hold evident as
Shadows that move behind them.
In human form they try to lure me in,
Like deep sea fish that cast their glow
Across alien terrain, fathoms beyond
My ability to comprehend, tiny points
Of light in a sunless world.
But I dwell in a madness of my own
And cast no shadow behind snuffed
Out eyes that have long since turned
Glassy and cold, the moonless fog
A dead ocean through which I swim…
