......

Heartbreak has found me,

As it always finds me,

Unprepared, weak in my

Loneliness, it feeds on it

As a shadow feeds on a

Lowering sun, gaining

Strength while it covers

Empty yards and hidden

Alleys, delighted in the

Surety of the darkness

That covers my thoughts

With twisted images of

A face that still haunts

Me in the gloaming of

My soul.

A memory that still festers,

A splintered fragment lodged

Much too deep for cutting, it

Spreads infection called Betrayal,

A common disease in a heart that

Bleeds with a rare condition named

Trust, leaving images engraved in

Its wake of a face that became a

Stone mask, embedded in that

Fragmented memory that has

Its source in a now empty room

Like a silent icon of what should

Have been but never came to be,

Her eyes shadows unto themselves,

Sightless now and far away.

I would say that this one indeed haunts and make the mind work. Sometimes like those dreams that I have that gives me cause to wonder.

Such a poem could only have come from such an experience. I've written similar missives myself. But that's what helped me to get through it. Good show, George.

Heartbreak - you have penned the emotion well, George; and many can relate to this write, including me. But I guess eventually both healing and time move on, as they must. Hope they move on very quickly for you.

George, vulnerability attracts a vacant vacuum. Even as it sucks the life out of you it leaves no trace of you, but only surreal haunting of the "other" Wish I could wave a magic wand, my friend, but as you know, all we can do is hope, pray, and go on...okay;-)? Another awesome poem,a keeper!
