......

In the spaces that lie between what I

Feel and what I say, a silence lingers

There, breathless voids of discontent

That cannot be crossed by a few simple

Words, as the reaches are far too vast and

I have not the skills to navigate them.

Ah how the poets dream of such things,

Elusive intangibles of thought to pen, I

Have dreamt of worlds, written only in

Whispered musings, that seek to define

What can only be imagined, shades of

Images that mirror what cannot be seen.

As a drifter I sail there, lost but ever

Seeking as I am pulled along those

Rapid inner currents of words unwritten

And voices unheard, minds eye guiding

My way as a beacon that splits the silence

In the spaces that lie between.

Ah George! That is why you are a poet!
I listened to a woman today trying to tell the story of her journey through a miraculous recovery from cancer. She was VERY inarticulate but we could 'hear' those 'spaces in between'...
Poet, you have found a way to express what so many have not mined their vocabularies for, what so many do not have the ability to communicate - and you have built a vessel to contain our experience, to give it form so that it is not lost in the vast oceans of things that are never shared. I like your work.

Thank you!

excellent, George. I once wrote a poem called "The Space Between" and I'm fascinated with the whole concept of what lies between. Happy New Year! Dawn

in a way the spaces are like little breaths of imagery & idea ...

your poetic analysis is spoken as a true poet ...

George, this is wonderful. This flows easily and 'navigates' quite nicely.

Just love this, George. You articulate well here what we all struggle with - and yet, what we leave out is invariably as important as what is put in - perhaps even more so!! I love the voice and tone of your writes; you deal so much with the inner landscapes, like the dark side of the moon. This topic is very close to my own heart; I have a poetry tutor who asked me what I thought "ineffable" means - I replied (with great confidence!) that it means "that which is inexpressible, and does not exist in the poet's dictionary!" Ahh, if only my confidence was founded on fact!! I truly do struggle... TY for this. Kate xx
