Tired, ancient eyes, what have they seen
In times hidden folds? The lines that surround
Them complex histories I long to decipher if
Only I knew the questions that might give voice
To the answers I seek, from a mouth that trembles
In a toothless smile whenever those eyes look my way.
Twisted, gnarled hands, what memories have they
Held between? Nails stained yellow from a lifetime
Of nicotine, they weren’t always thus, but once upon
A time pointed things out to me in quiet places of
Moss covered trees where sunbeams whispered fairytale
Promises and dragonflies danced on lily pads.
