This may seem a little abrupt, the ending, but when it feels done, I try not to force the thing. I also wanted to add that I welcome criticisms...if they are constructive, nonspiteful. Many of you who read and comment on my works are so very good, and I try to learn from you...I never finished highschool or studied any kind of creative writing classes, etc. I wing it...so don't be afraid, please, to offer any helpful advice here =). I welcome the chance to learn from you all. And thank you for all the nice comments you've given me, makes me feel really good.

The warmth of a winter sun

Greeted my upturned face

When I stepped outside

Today, and I felt cleansed

By that unexpected heat,

Troubles melting away

Like the snow that now

Wept into the earth at my

Feet, to rise again in misty

Tendrils like hazy afterthoughts

Of less important things.

I closed my eyes and smiled

As I breathed in that warmth

Even though I knew how

Temperamental February

Could be in its indecisive

Transitions, because I could

Recognize that commonality

Within myself, and gave thanks

For being able to learn from such

Things, and this fleeting peace of mind

That shone like the flaming jewel above.

END

George you are not alone...my history is very much the same as yours...I never had any intention to write poetry...but a friend asked me to join AD as a sort of communication place....and WHala here I am doing my thingy...but without that friend!!
So what ever you read is straight from the heart no "educated" version!!

I always enjoy your work!!

Love Tinka

Degrees do not intelligence make nor do they help speak the language that needs to be spoken. You do very well and I sure feel that I should not as Ed said attempt to improve on your writing. If you have it George you have and believe me you have it.

I would never even attempt to inflict my point of view on what I think would improve someone else's writing - I'll leave that to the pros - whomever they may be. But I do know what I like; and I haven't come across one of your poems yet that I haven't liked, George.

And I agree with Eileen; I think you were born to write.

This is perfect, George. It is compelling and captivating from start to finish. And you got the "its" right. A lot of folks seem to have trouble recognizing the difference between "its" and "it's." Thank you. Love and peace. Regis

George,

This doesn't seem forced; it flows naturally and beautifully. I agree, you've a talent for writing. Keep at it, every day, even if you don't feel like writing or don't like what you've penned. Go back to it later and revise it if you have to. Or keep it as it--as an author, it's your perogative! LOL

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla. :)

George you are one that is born to write. I saw that from your very first poem You should always pay attention to your gut-instinct. Like this poem, you have the right idea about not forcing a finish. That's not to say you can't learn from others. I learn every day, and hope that I always will. Your eagerness and curiosity will teach you as you read others.

This is beautiful... When a persons senses are clear and the fog has lifted, even a month like February can bring happiness. One personal note, whether you finished high school or not isn't important, your writing is. And that you need no help with, you've got the talent...
