......

There is strength in surrender and I

Have learned that it is often a greater

Act of courage to admit defeat than

To fight that which binds me, and yes

I am bound to fail when I attempt to

Stand alone, refusing to acknowledge

A burden that slowly grows in weight

The longer I choose to hold it within,

Until it drags me to my knees, yoke

Of sorrows crafted by a heart that

Perhaps feels too much, baffled by

My lack of expression, my inability

To articulate the very thing I have

Created by the simple act of doing

Nothing to release the pressure as

I go about my way, smiling here,

Nodding there, superficial lies to mask

A deeper truth, as a secluded pond

Whose surface appears tranquil while

Dark things caper in the muck beneath

Twisting and biting, screaming in silent

Confrontation until the wounds they inflict

Overwhelms and those screams become

Nothing more than whimpered pleas to

Form ripples across the face of this illusion.

END

My goodness, how I can relate to this profoundly stirring write, George. I, too, am much more fluent on paper than face-to-face... well, the truth is that I can "babble", but more about nothing than about something!! About anything, in fact, that doesn't come toooo close... As usual, your graphic and monochrome tones give this a surreal and dream-like quality... and it feels to me like the frustration of a dream where you want to open your mouth and scream - but nothing comes out!! This is as a silent scream to me. You have, as ever, expressed it uniquely and BRILLIANTLY. TY Kate xx

Splendidly done, love the last line...Form ripples across the face of this illusion. Is this introspection or just a will-of-the-wisp pensive write?
