Sorry soon followed every time you raged,
But sorry could never, ever fix the pain,
The radiating agony of a black eye again,
Tears from the bruised iris that could fill a terrain.
I used to think, one day I would survive,
Survive the beatings and wallowing cries,
For every night you came home drunk,
I spent the day wishing that the day before you had left my body sunk,
Down in the bath where you held me still,
Lifting my head for a breath then drowning my head for the kill.
But sorry soon followed not so long after,
Wishing I could escape from the hands of my love master.
Yes, a very sad truth. Why so many women are attracted to abusive men? And then, get caught up in a cycle of codependent abuse and apology that can only end badly. What a shame!
