This poem lets readers know how I feel about cancer. And is in honor of my friends and family who I have lost to it.
It sneaks in like a winter snowfall
Silently, and without warning
It comes in the form of lumps, a cough,
an unknown pain, a bloody nose.
It attacks the child, young adult and elderly,
black, white, yellow, red, color is no match,
the devil beast attacks without prejudice.
This devil beast that attacks like a grizzly,
Attacks one an all, will it ever be stopped, captured, killed or destroyed?
Many have escaped the devil beast’s clutches.
Only to have it return with vigor,
only to lose their battle for life.
As the many friends and family, we have lost,
to this terrible devil beast called Cancer.
Well, I read 2 of your poems; I may as well tackle this one, unpleasant as it is. You have done a good job of describing it in all its fury and cunning. My brother at 29 yrs, a little niece who survived cancer in her eye, a very close friend, a young single mom...... Most of us are familiar with the beast. Many pray for mercy and a cure.
