It seems no one is sad anymore.
They are only angry or vindictive or complacently benign.
Why am I the only sad one?
Why are all tears dried up?
Is there a famine of the glands
Or a famine of the hearts' depths
Or a survival negation in force?
Perhaps it is a famine of the consciousness
Even, perhaps of the conscience.
Where have guilt, fear and pride flown?
It is lonely to be so strange.
It is lonely to feel so much
In a world of bland pricked by,
The overmuch of terror and atrocity.
I'll keep my neurotic melancholy.
There even seems to be a blessing in it
I'm happy to be merely sad.
