With many thanks to Susan Rowse for this Haida Indian proverb:

"We don't inherit this earth from our ancestors. We borrow it from our grandchildren."

This, I suppose, is some sort of allegory based especially on the thoughts provoked by Robert Jude(Ace)'s poem, "Special Child", and the comment left on it by La Belle Rouge: "Welcoming the truth and future like a strange abandoned child on our doorstep". I fully acknowledge their inspiration in the writing of this piece, so this is to them with grateful thanks... LOL Kate xx

TOMORROW'S CHILD

Tomorrow's Child arrives
abandoned and forlorn
on the World's doorstep.
Helpless and neglected
she stands in the midst
of an ignorant, jostling crowd
and weeps
silently

Hers are the all-seeing eyes of Time
and the all-knowing, watchful gaze of Truth.
They are a beautiful blue-green,
like jewels of a planet,
but their light has gone -
swept away by the Flood of tears

Dirty and ragged, she kneels beseeching on the ground
and lifts cupped hands pleadingly.
Her broken spirit and bared head bowed declare:
"What did I do that you hate me so?
What is my crime that you leave me here to die?
Better that you had left me with Yesterday
in the ranks of the Unborn."

Only two do not pass her by;
Twin sisters, Love and Grace,
hover nervously close, helplessly looking on.
They summon their Father, Mercy,
whose strength and compassion approaches the Child
tenderly

Anxiously looking up, the Child sees a face
in which to put her trust.
Mercy lovingly helps her to her feet,
encourages her to stand
and offers her His hand...

Hope has found a home

... and for Bhuwan with love and prayers. Bless you. Kate xx

A masterpiece, Kate. Truly. So visual and compelling on an emotional level. Love and grace come to us and provide strength enough to lift our eyes and find Mercy, that home for hope we need so much in our world today. Through tears, may we become like tomorrow's child and see some way... Dawn

This is a splendid uplifting offering from you Kate.
The concept was inspired from others, but the poem
was inspired from your spirit within.Beautoifully so...

A very poignant and timely ending to this poem. Life does carry on; with, or without us, it manages to go forth as long as that is in THE PLAN. And I am so glad Tomorrow's Child finds love, and grace and mercy because I just can't fathom life otherwise. Thank you for this morsel of faith.

Carmen :-)
