"Gestalt is the body of a poem, but is more than just the sum of it's collective parts... If the gestalt is right, you won't even notice the poem's form; it will be perceived only as an 'inevitable utterance'.
ODE TO GESTALT
You are more than just the sum
of your collective parts:
more than eyes, lips and hair;
more than bone and rippling muscle.
A poem is so much more than words
and syntax on a page.
I want to skin you with my teeth;
flail the flesh of what's beneath.
Sieve your heart and shred your soul;
melt you down and swallow you WHOLE...
Coat me in your essence:
I want to wear you on the outside
and to crawl inside your veins;
to mix our vital fluids
and to ease each other's pains.
Your inevitable utterance makes me sigh.
The fingerprints of your breath
gently mark my deepest places.
Veiled in words,
your beauty defies description.
I see not the poem
but sense only what is being said:
I love it, Kate! The visceral images, the gathering of the mind, the intermingling of the parts and essences, and the last verse and line seed the imagination and create a longing to have such completeness...
wow, that must have been some poem you heard! It affected you deeply, sounds like you have been altered by it as well.........
this is very deep......and visceral.......
the middle was almost disturbing........till I got to the end......then you set me straight :)
Sometimes I am too literal! I have a relative who does Gestalt training .......I am with Janet, thats what I thought this was about too.......
you are some writer!!!
I'm only familiar with "Gestalt" as a psychiatric tool. It was neat to read this other definition. Good write, but I had some trouble understanding it.
Wow. You just keep soaring. This certainly has gestalt. Terrific! I'm with Jenna below on the quiet power of your last line. Dawn

Incredible lines:
I want to skin you with my teeth;
The fingerprints of your words
Speak to me again. (Just the solitude of it, how the final line is set apart, not tangled in rhyme schemes with other words lends to its ammunition like a rebel line it is the line with the megaphone so when you do that be certain the line is vital or thematic or in need of volumous delivery.)
This programmed, self-paced lesson focuses exclusively on the use of postpostions (ga and (w)o) with grammatical objects in the Japanese language without wavering or getting off track in the labyrinth of Japanese syntax and other grammatical issues.

You epitomise profoundness of expression...or better still total expression..
Lovely indeed ..
Peter
and see other poems that way! How great is that?
