If you go into your bedroom
and shut the door,
it is then that Despair
will make his move...
Patiently he will bide his time,
waiting until resistance is low;
then, at last, in private,
you will feel his irresistible breath
close upon your neck.
Entering into darkness
only brings him closer.
Slipping between cold sheets
finds him already there,
and it's then that his
chilling embrace
squeezes not only sharp breath
but frozen tears from eyes
that hitherto have been
strained and parched.
He will not be denied -
and at least giving in to him
brings a kind of relief:
Dear Kate,
I am going to start sounding like a broken record (should that be 'scratched cd'? lol) in a minute. I don't often find myself at a loss for words but when I read your work I often am. You are among the greatest poets I've ever read. Please never stop writing. Your work is powerful!
Love and admiration

Well written and true. Unforunately, I've lain with this fellow too often, but kick-boxing via faith helps immensely to knock him out the bed and rise.
Chilled by the truth of that monstrous Despair who lurks in the shadowed corner of my room sometimes and climbs right into bed uninvited. What a write this is, Kate.
Exactly! It's weird how one can put off bad thoughts and worries until it is time for bed, when you're doing nothing but lying in the dark and thinking. You describe it very well.
GAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i love the way your mind works--you have the absolute power in each and every word, so the reader is left shaking his or her head in agreement, "uh, huh, i know what she's talking about!" SPOT ON!
I've been missing you, Kate. You certainly made a grand entrance back with this chilling poem. My despair comes throughout the days. I sleep to escape. This was a wonderful concept.
Your imagery places the reader in the midst of all that is going on -sending chills up and down one's spine ... your are a poetess that defines the descriptive write ... exceptional!!
So so true, Kate. God knows I have been there so many times. You capture the essence of "despair" extremely well in your verses. Thank you. Love and peace. Regis
