This is the reappearance of an early lyric I did last year, reposted with thanks to Joshua Miller.

ALTERNATIVE SOCIETY

Words are like sifted shingle,
surf-tossed on the shoreline;
The waves of life wash over them
and they are honed, scattered.

Your words to me
are like the moon:
My vast inner seas are
shaken and stirred
by the pull of her tides,
ebbing and flowing -
affecting my moods.

Your words to me
are like an ever-floating bubble:
Elusive and sinuous,
it's dancing colours vibrating
against the strings of my soul,
taking me along with it...

But, when I look for you
within these globes,
you are gone;
My own distorted features are
the only reflections that I see
bouncing off their surfaces.

Written words are all we have,
our Society of Poets;
There is no voice to decipher
at the end of a phone;
No face to read;
No body language present:

Just dancing ink on fresh canvas
and no other clues to meaning.

But I want always our words
to incite and inflame
the thoughts and inspiration,
each of another;
Searching out together
all of life's secrets...

Like burning coals which
forge the weapons that
sharpen the images of the mind;
Never to dull or grow cold,
or become the dusty ash -

The Cinders that yet awaits
The Charming One to come
and Reveal All.

For the Truth is here
within our grasp,
as we unite to
discover it.

Wow! I am taken aback by the effusion of words, images, depth, color, and chemistry lodged in this piece. I think one can not help but gain a sense of spiraling effluence which is oft found in a dream state. Awesome work Kate! Thanks for this!

"...dancing ink, on fresh canvas." One gorgeously formed line
surrounded by lovely partners of verse.
You just get better and better, my Brit friend!

This is an excellent poem, Kate. I enjoy the way you connect your words, the ideas that you express. I wonder so often, what our internet poet friends are like in their day to day lives. Probably similar to mine at different stages in my life. I wonder about day jobs and what people are like animated. Maybe it's the portrait painter in me.

A most intriguing piece, Kate; and The Truth, indeed, is out there; perhaps to be penned and revealed by a True Poet.

Pen On!

I see this is a "classic Burnside piece" and is incomparable in both subject matter and passion. Beautiful words from a beautiful lady. Well done Kate.

Loved the flow. Yup we never know when he will return.

Like how the poetic images dance off the page too..

By the cringe and ecky thump, nice tribute to our young windy miller.

Never have been to camblewick green..
